So this past weekend, the family went on a little trip, which happened to be our first with our baby. We went to a nice hotel about an hour and a half from our home. He did wonderful in the car and the cloth diapering away wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting.
The one issue we really had was stuff, we had baby blankets and burp cloths and trying to keep track of where they all were was exceedingly difficult. At home we have a routine and we have places where we keep the baby stuff. In a hotel there is no routine and since we just saw the movie Contagion, we were paranoid about his stuff touching anything. In fact as soon as we got home everything got thrown in the washer for free of the germs contaminating our home. Crazy, yes but it did help us sleep better so I think its ok.
The area we went to is very conservative, and we went to an old school german restaurant for dinner. Of course little man got hungry during dinner and I felt a little less than comfortable breastfeeding him during our dinner. Apparently old german women didn’t breastfeed or only did so when they decided to, in very typical german fashion. I should mention that my husband, although born and raised in the states in 100% german, thus I have free reign to poke a little fun here and there.
Overall I would say our first trip was a success! We do have a week long trip complete with 4 hour airplane rides and rental cars coming up here in a few months and my husband remarked upon getting home, “well we learned we definitely aren’t ready for that trip!”
