I know I’ve been posting a lot about sleep, but as any new mom knows, sleep is pretty much the most important thing for the first few months.  My son has always been a pretty good night-time sleeper, naps eh not so much.  I took little man to the museum with a fellow crunchy mom and sleep dominated our discussion yesterday.  I slowly came to the realization that my little guy only naps in my arms or right next to me.  Every once in a while he will fall asleep on the floor by himself and sleep for about 15-20 minutes but that doesn’t happen very often and those naps are too short!  Also his morning naps have turned into a fuss fest and I’m none to pleased about this.  Today he was awake at 7 and didn’t go down for a nap until 10:30, in our arms he likes to take a nap around 9/9:30.  Needless to say he was so tired and grumpy by the time he went down, and I was getting very frustrated.  Frustration usually breeds change, which today was true.  I put the batteries in the baby monitor and put all the laundry that I keep in his crib away and decided he was taking a nap in his crib.  It took a while especially since I don’t let him cry, but I ended up rocking him in the rocking chair until he was pretty much asleep and then putting him down in his crib.  He’s been asleep for 22 minutes as of right now and I’m so excited.  I’m able to type with both hands and get some cleaning done around the house.  As much as I truly love him sleeping in my arms, I know it can’t go on forever and during naps he can’t sleep that well in my arms and I can’t get anything done lying on the couch with a sleeping baby for 3 hours.  So score one for softcrunchymom, I finally have a baby that has used the stupid organic crib mattress we had to have!
